Clare gained her Chartered Accountancy qualification with Grant Thornton.

After leaving accountancy practice she spent three years as Group Accountant at the Gloucestershire Training and Enterprise Council prior to joining the Compass Group where she progressed from Finance Manager to Divisional Finance Director.

During her time at Compass Group she was involved in contract negotiation with major retailers.
