Identify the latest developments and current trends in active and intelligent packaging.
Active packaging is packaging which is specifically designed to change the condition of the packed food to extend shelf-life, improve safety or enhance sensory properties. Intelligent packaging, in contrast, is designed to sense the environment and to convey information to the user. This publication - the proceedings of an international conference held at CCFRA in September 2000 - provides commercially useful information from recognised experts on the major active and intelligent packaging devices and systems. Technical and marketing perspectives on these emerging packaging technologies are presented and important regulatory, economic, environmental and consumer acceptability issues are outlined.
