Microwaveable foods represent a dynamic sector of the food industry with consumer demand driving innovation and convenience. Crucial to the safety and quality of microwaveable foods is the development of appropriate reheating instructions for the end user. These guidelines set out procedures for food companies to use when verifying reheating instructions. Following these procedures will help ensure the highest standards of safety and quality for the reheated end product.

Developed by the Microwave Working Group of the UK Microwave Association, the guide cross-refers to relevant European standards and the UK labelling scheme for microwave ovens and foods. The contents include:

  • Guidelines on verifying food reheating instructions
  • Equipment and environment for controlled testing
  • Measurement of power delivered by microwave ovens
  • UK labelling scheme for ovens and foods
  • Symbols for use on microwave ovens and food packs
  • References / further information
