Introduction Research Programme 2008 lists all research and development projects, other than small service contracts and confidential consortia or company-funded work, currently being undertaken or already completed this year or supervised by CCFRA. Projects are grouped into a number of strategic themes. These themes are drawn from The Needs of the Agri-Food Chain – a document which encapsulates the scientific and technical needs of the food, drink and related industries, as identified through a triennial industry-consultation exercise undertaken by CCFRA. This emphasis on industrial relevance is reinforced by the active involvement of members in the creation, selection and steering of research proposals. As a consequence, the results of the research programme have considerable commercial value. For each project, a concise description is presented together with details of the funding source, start and end dates, collaborators, and project manager. Wherever possible, project managers will be pleased to provide members with further information about particular projects. Please note, however, that results of a number of jointly-funded projects, such as LINK and Clubs, are confidential to participating members in the first instance and so further information may be restricted. The commercial implications arising from each project are reported to members by a variety of routes:
