Food science

Chair: Lynn Foster, Weetabix Ltd

Technical Secretary: Dr. Mike Edwards

The Food Science Panel provides a forum to select and direct research and exchange information on food science topics, including chemical analysis, the influence of raw materials, processing and storage on food properties and the applications of modern biotechnology, particularly the detection of genetically modified materials and developing EU legislation on chemical registration and authorisation.

An Environmental Forum considers issues that affect the food industry such as Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control, climate change and packaging waste.

A former Contaminants and Authenticity Working Party, with interests based on chemical and physical issues, including mycotoxins, was involved in the development of Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals: relevance to the food industry (CCFRA Review No. 38) and is currently being reconstituted as a Chemical Methods Working Party.
