Building on the RA’s long-standing and unrivalled reputation for research into thermal processing, this panel addresses the many issues relating to heat processing of foods, including microwave heating and aseptic technology as described in the Principal Areas of Interest. The group comprises food contact material manufacturers and converters, as well as food processors and retailers.

Particular topics of discussion have included developments in retortable packaging, improved control of the total heating process and water treatment. In addition, the Panel has helped guide the new member-subscription funded project on Pasteurisation: principles, processes and guidelines.
