Nutrition and health claims

Harmonised criteria for all nutrition and health claims made on food labels and in the generic advertising and promotion of food, were introduced through the long awaited EC Regulation on Nutrition and Health Claims. This legislation put in place a series of general principles applicable to all claims of this type and also established specific conditions on the use of nutrition and/or health claims.

Many companies wishing to make such claims benefited from our tailored briefings on this significant development in labelling law, by our Food Law Advisors to their product development, technical and marketing personnel. The briefings were extremely well received as, in addition to providing a confidential forum for a company to discuss its own product-specific or commercially sensitive issues, they proved to be a particularly cost effective and flexible way of group training.

Specialist activities like this briefing series continue to complement our wider legislation services, such as product label reviews and Food Law Alert. Our label review service helps companies ensure that their products are labelled correctly and that they comply with upwards of 100 separate pieces of legislation and additional 'hard-to-find' guidance and enforcement opinions.
