Food allergen labelling and legislation

Food allergen labelling and legislation

A growing number of people have life-threatening allergies to certain foods. It is vital that they can tell from food labels whether the food contains the allergens they are susceptible to.

Food allergen legislation
Indeed, several countries and regions (including the EU) have introduced legislation which requires the presence of the major food allergens, or their derivatives, to be labelled. And in situations where allergenic foods are unintentionally present due to cross-contamination, both civil and criminal legal procedures can apply.

For guidance on food allergen labelling and other legislation that applies to allergens in foods, contact Campden BRI's Legislation advisors at legislation@campden.co.uk
