Pesticide taint services

As well as meeting regulatory requirements, taint testing is vitally important in ensuring that suppliers, processors and retailers have confidence in the foodstuffs they are producing and selling, and that consumer satisfaction is not damaged by taints originating from the use of pesticides.

CCFRA is the industry leader in the evaluation of pesticides for taint on treated crops with over 45 years of experience. We can provide a comprehensive taint testing service including: advice on requirements (UK and EU), the production of crop samples, processing of the samples using pilot plant facilities for a wide range of commercial preservation techniques, and detailed sensory taint test assessment.

Guidance on taint testing requirements - We have an in-depth understanding of the UK requirements for taint testing and are in close contact with the UK regulatory authority, the Pesticides Safety Directorate. We are also able to provide guidance in meeting the requirements of EU regulatory procedures.

Generation of crop samples - CCFRA has the facilities and expertise to produce samples of the high quality necessary for commercial processing. Growing field trials specifically for the producton of taint samples minimises the problems often associated with the use of residue or efficacy trials that do not always produce samples of suitable quality for processing for human consumption. Problems relating to the deterioration or contamination of samples during transit are also minimised.

Pilot plant processing of samples - CCFRA has a wealth of expertise together with the most up to date pilot plant processing facilities in Europe, thus ensuring the production of high quality samples equivalent to the best commercial practice. Samples from clients' own trials, where appropriate, can also be used for the production of processed samples.

Sensory taint testing facilities - Detailed assesments are undertaken by a trained panel of assessors in our own state-of-the-art facilities at CCFRA. Our methods are UKAS accredited and are in accordance with ISO 4120:1983 - Sensory Analysis Methodology, Triangle Test.

All taint testing activities are ORETO (Official Recognition of Efficiency Testing Facilities or Organisations in the United Kingdom) certified.
