This new course is aimed particularly at those with newly acquired or potential management responsibility for Health and Safety at Work.

Assuming no prior knowledge, this one-day briefing will combine easy-to-understand interactive presentations using examples drawn from the food and drink industry, with practical exercises based on realistic food processing environments. Tutors will include a range of specialists including a member of the Campden BRI legislation team with prior experience in health and safety enforcement.


Course content

  • Framework of legislation, including the Health and Safety at Work Act 1970
  • Establishing a Health and Safety Policy
  • Preventing accidents: to include case studies and practical exercises based on realistic food and processing environments
  • Hot topics, to include:
    –REACH legislation and how it impacts on the food industry
    –Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007
    –Migrant workers in the food industry
    –Respiratory disease in bakeries - part of the HSE disease reduction programme
