This workshop is essential for Laboratory Managers or senior laboratory personnel responsible for method selection and demonstrating 'fitness for use' and who need basic guidance on how to approach performance studies in a practical and achievable manner. The case studies give first hand experience on how to approach method validation/evaluation, how to interpret data, and how to present study findings.

This course will be of relevance to senior laboratory personnel who have little or no experience in evaluating methods to demonstrate fitness for use.

"All laboratories must be able to demonstrate that the methods used are suitable for the intended purpose and give reliable results. This gives confidence in results, and is a requirement for laboratory accreditation (e.g. UKAS, CLAS and other schemes based on ISO/IEC 17025). Whether introducing a new method, modifying an existing method, extending a method´s application to new sample types or assessing the suitability of an existing method, the need to collate data to verify performance is good laboratory practice.

With good planning and sound knowledge of factors to consider, method performance studies are possible with minimal disruption to the laboratory"
