Pesticides, risk management and food and feed safety

This is a tailored course please contact our training team for further information.

The need to manage the use of pesticides at all stages in the food and feed supply chain has become an essential part of food and feed safety assurance programmes. This need has been given an added impetus by new developments in pesticide legislation, including enhanced pesticide approval requirements and MRL (Maximum Residue Levels) regulations. In addition a more generalised requirement for sustainable use and pesticide residue minimisation is gaining support within the food industry and with regulators. Businesses in all parts of the food and feed chain, from primary producers to retailers, must be proactive in the control of pesticides and be able to provide evidence that their controls are effective.

This course will provide practical guidance to identifying, evaluating and controlling hazards associated with pesticide use in pre and post harvest handling of crop products and in sourcing food and feed raw materials. The course covers the principles and provides delegates with an opportunity to analyse and discuss the key elements of pesticide controls and verification procedures; case study work allows an insight into best practice in different scenarios.

The course will benefit:

  • those responsible for implementing pesticide controls and those assuring compliance with adopted practices, and
  • those wishing to obtain a better understanding of pesticide risks and controls in the food and feed supply chain.
