Speaker Profile: Helen Brown
After graduating with a degree in Zoology from the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, Helen moved to Plymouth Marine Laboratory to carry out a PhD on 'Enzymic aspects of the seasonal regulation of metabolism in the common mussel Mytilus edulis L.'. This involved developing assays for enzymes and enzymatic assays for metabolites. She moved to Campden BRI to study chemical and biochemical factors affecting food quality. This encompassed enzyme assays, the analysis of flavours and taints, and food colour. She has worked at Campden BRI for the last 20 years and now manages the Biochemistry Section in the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department which comprises a Biochemistry Group and a Molecular Biology Group.
