Resource management - primary production
This is a tailored course please contact our training team for further information.
The sustainability of the current system of production of food and feed raw materials is in question. Existing farming processes and knowledge systems that support them are no-longer considered fit-for-purpose and a new approach is called for. There is a need for an integrated approach which encompasses the classical scarcities related to natural resources (e.g. soil, water, nitrogen, phosphorus) and the new issues such as climate change and biodiversity. The focus is on good agricultural practice in relation to resource management with respect of these challenges.
This course focuses on the understanding of resource issues in agriculture and horticulture and the mechanisms available to manage these resources with special reference to crop products. The emphasis is on providing an understanding of recognised good agricultural practice in relation to resource management in the production of primary agricultural products such as food and feed raw materials. The course will benefit:
- those responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating resource management practices in the production of food and feed raw materials, and
- those wishing to obtain a better understanding of resource management in the raw material supply chain.
