Benefits of attending

This course is aimed at first time trainers or those looking to develop/refine their techniques. Completing this award will equip you with basic knowledge and skills required to develop and deliver training programmes, provide learning support and take responsibility in managing the learning process. The course is highly participative including exercises, questionnaires, games and group activities. The award encourages a flexible approach to training delivery, taking into account learners' needs and preferences. Emphasis is placed on managing practical training in the food industry in order to motivate staff and improve efficiency. This course is approved by the CIEH for trainers of the Basic Food Hygiene Course


Course content

  • Roles and responsibilities - responsibilities of trainers, matching training materials to learners.
  • Learning styles and preferences - identify/demonstrate relevant approaches to training within a specialist area, factors that influence learning.
  • Training planning skills - identity appropriate learning outcomes, design training sessions, utilise different/diverse training resources.
  • Training styles and communication - establishing ground rules, demonstrate good practice in giving feedback.
  • Training assessment - different ways of assessing the effectiveness of training and measuring results.

This qualification replaces the CIEH Professional Trainer Certificate (PTC). On achieving this qualification, you may progress onto a Level 3 Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS).
