Simon Penson, Campden BRI
Simon Penson joined Campden BRI in September 2009 as head of the Cereals and Milling department. He holds BSc (Hons.), MPhil and PhD degrees in Biochemistry from the University of Wales. As well as post–doctoral experience gained at the University of California, Berkeley and Bristol University, Simon has wide experience of managing science and technology development in the agri–food sectors. He has managed quality testing in the plant breeding industry and, most recently, has gained experience of a wide variety of technology development activities in the consumer goods industry. Simon is named as a co–inventor on a coffee technology patent application, and has co–authored several articles in the area of coffee science and technology.
Simon has two main interests in his work: developing enabling knowledge and technology, and developing people. He has established a track–record in both fields of activity, and believes that creating the right working environment is key to business growth and development.
Simon represents Campden BRI on several influential external industry committees. He has presented on the science of baking and milling quality to a wide range of audiences, and enjoys sharing his knowledge and expertise.
